McArthur Public Library

270 Main St - Biddeford, Maine - 207 284 4181

McArthur Public Library, located in Biddeford, Maine, is currently accepting applications for a full-time Teen Services Librarian (37.5 hours/week).

Biddeford is located just 20 minutes south of Portland and is now the youngest city in Maine. Portland Press Herald recently wrote "A renaissance here has drawn a flood of fresh faces – and businesses – making the municipality's median age plunge."

Come join our team during an exciting time in our community's history. As Biddeford has continued to develop in a way that has drawn attention all over Maine, our library continues to be a busy and vibrant hub in the center of the downtown.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding customer service skills, a natural affinity with our young patrons, a great sense of humor, boundless energy and ambition, be detail-oriented, tech savvy, and able to work in a busy, fast-paced environment. S/he will provide excellent library services to a diverse and multilingual population and work productively with all team members across the library.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Effectively advocating for teens in both the library and the wider community and school district;
  • Regular daily staffing of the information desk in the adult room department, providing reference services to adults, teens, and new adults;
  • Collection development and purchasing for our teen (and new adult) collection, as well as management of our teen space;
  • Coordinating all teen programming and outreach, and working in collaboration with the Children's Librarian and team;
  • Provision of excellent library services to a diverse and multilingual population.

McArthur Library is looking to expand its STEAM-related offerings for young people, so prior experience planning and implementing relevant programs (incorporating our own collection of makerspace technology and tools) will score you bonus points!

Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Masters Degree in Library Science or equivalent. Candidates will ideally have experience in a public library or school library setting focused on teen/youth services.

The position includes benefits, and the pay range begins at $21.50/hour.  The schedule will include at least one evening per week and rotating Saturdays.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled and interviews will begin immediately. To apply, please email a cover letter and resume to Jeff Cabral, Director at
